Heidi: The theme for this year’s CTS is Digital Sustainability. We feel that we have a responsibility to set this topic high on the agenda. In short, our goal is to raise awareness among our developers about the significance of sustainable practices related to their work.
Emil: By prioritizing digital sustainability, we stay ahead of the game. It gives us a competitive edge and enhances our reputation, attracting clients who share our commitment to eco-conscious practices. However, it's not just about clients; it's about our team too. Digital Sustainability creates a work culture that aligns with our employees' values, creating a sense of purpose and motivation.
Heidi: This year, we're introducing a new format that I'm truly excited about! We will have engaging panel discussions and a deeper dive into participants' chosen topics with workshops and hands-on learning. The event is digital and broadcast to five different locations: Malmö, Umeå, Gothenburg, Linköping and Stockholm.
Emil: The trails for this year's CTS include UX, Communication, Security, AI/ML, and Embedded, with digital sustainability at its core.
Heidi: Behind the scenes, there is more work than one might think. We leave no stone unturned when it comes to planning for live events. We have a plan a,b and c for every part of the conference. For example there are backups for everything. From extra computers, internet access and the possibility of someone being unable to attend.
We need to consider various scenarios, such as the possibility of someone falling ill, potential issues with embedded hardware, managing lead times during live workshops with large amounts of data, and even determining the number of backup batteries required for the microphones on the event day. With multiple locations, we strive for consistent quality and prioritize sustainability in selecting venues, which adds an extra layer of complexity.
Emil: I hope to inspire colleagues to consider digital sustainability and encourage clients to do the same. Cygni will also provide concrete examples of implementing, measuring, and monitoring digital sustainability. After the conference there will be educational material to share principles and knowledge with our clients, which means that we’ll be able to use the knowledge we gathered during the event also in the future. The main focus of the conference is participating in chosen trails, where I am confident everyone will learn new and interesting things!
Heidi: Now there are tons of deadlines, and all the really hard work starts. I hope we manage to keep up enthusiasm amongst all our colleagues by communicating clearly all the details that are settled so far and spreading the word of what they can expect from this year's CTS. Now, it’s all about the details, wrapping everything up and ensuring that plan a, b and c are in place!
Emil: I’m really looking forward to the best part: the actual day of the conference. All the hard work comes together smoothly(!) during a day of fun and learning together.
The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.
A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
At CTS 2023, our main theme will revolve around sustainability and its relationship with technology, which we feel fit perfectly with our Cygni values.
As we explained previously, we have made some changes to this year's CTS in response to your feedback, aiming to make it better than ever. Rather than offering a wide range of speakers and topics, you will have the opportunity to choose a subject that particularly captures your interest. This will allow you to really immerse yourself deeply in that trail, and provide you with valuable hands-on knowledge! Exciting, right?
We have already found some wonderful and sustainable venues where we will eat and celebrate after CTS, more to come!
Stockholm: Fotografiska
All meetings and events held at Fotografiska are climate-financed with at least 300% in the Golden Standard project "The Vichada Climate Reforestation Project", which works towards several of the UN's global sustainability goals. Fotografiska's food philosophy means that they work with a strong focus on sustainability. They always have an organic, locally produced and plant-based menu with the best seasonal ingredients.
Linköping: LINK business center
"Light, fresh, clear, clean. You should feel uplifted when you enter!” That was architect Gert Wingårdh's vision when they designed Linköping's new business center and they have really succeeded! The entire Link building is certified according to The LEED Green Building Rating System, level Gold. We will have lunch at Östgöta kök, which really has a green vision and works continuously to choose ingredients and products that have as little environmental impact as possible.
Göteborg: Gothia Towers
Gothia Towers is the most sustainable venue in Gothenburg! Gothenburg has also ranked at the top for the past seven years as the most sustainable destination in the Global Destination Sustainability Index. Gothia Towers gets all its electricity solely from wind turbines, and the recycling rate of waste from the premises is a whopping 94%. Environmentally certified according to BREEAM, and also uses ISO20121 which is a customised certification for sustainable events that was created for the Olympics in London 2012. The food at Gothia Towers is locally produced and organic.
Umeå: P5
This year, Luleå, Umeå and Östersund have chosen to do something together and for the first time in Cygni's history run CTS with a genuine northern touch. We will converge in Björkarnas stad, where during the day we will occupy the conference facility P5. P5 is located in the middle of Väven in the heart of central Umeå, with bright daylight (depending on the season...) and a view of the river. As the theme for this year's CTS is sustainability, P5 naturally offers local and organic ingredients that we will enjoy during lunch. We will of course also eat in the evening, but we will come back with a choice of place when this is ready.
Malmö: Studio Meetingpoint
Studio Meetingpoint is located in STUDIO a LEED Platinum-certified house about 5 minutes walk from Malmö Central Station with beautiful view over "Malmö Frihamnen" and Öresund. All Danes visiting Malmö will stay at the hotel in the same building. Lunch will be served at Lokal 17 which is located on the ground floor. In 2021, Altitude (the meeting venues) signed the City of Malmö's Climate Contract, which is intended to function as a tool for the city of Malmö, business, academia and Malmö residents to collaborate on and take advantage of ideas, initiatives and efforts when it comes to reaching the goal - a sustainable Malmö 2030. In the evening we will have dinner at Restaurant Spill. Their concept is that their food largely consists of raw materials that would actually be thrown away which they instead buy and create delicious meals of.
As the event approaches, we'll be sharing more details. You can always read all the updates here on the CTS webpage. Until then, have a lovely summer!

Last year's conference was a great success, and we have your feedback to back it up! Who could forget Sven's memorable mustache, the “fantastic” chain reactions, the nostalgic
throwback moments with silent Emil & Pär, and Nathalie's insightful comments? Oh, the memories! And we heard you loud and clear – many of you were eager for more hands-on workshops.
As we prepare for this year's event, we want you to know that we've carefully considered all the feedback from previous years. We've learned from those unforgettable moments and valuable insights, ensuring that this conference will be even better. So get ready, because we're bringing the excitement straight to your screens with a digital format across our seven regions, all centered around the theme of digital sustainability. We'll have excellent speakers, engaging discussions, and interactive sessions.
While we're still in the early stages of planning and haven't finalized all the details yet, we can guarantee a full day of deep-diving into various subjects, covering everything from AI to security and UX. And don't worry—there will be plenty of hands-on activities.
Mark your calendars for November 10th, 2023, and stay tuned for further updates on our website cts.cygni.se. We can't wait to see you there!
